Springtime is all about new beginnings, and this year that sentiment couldn’t be more true for Two Bright Lights. A few weeks ago I received a proposal for TBL to become a part of the XO Group family with The Knot, The Bump and The Nest, while continuing to run as an independent company. Until now, Two Bright Lights has been a bootstrapped business and I’m grateful to have steered it this far. But for me, a question has always lingered… What if we had more resources? We could do so much more for our members!
Truthfully, the XO Group opportunity was completely unexpected. But like it was meant to be, everything quickly started to fall into place. It’s hard to believe that it has been five years since our first software specification document. The Two Bright Lights’ community has grown to include 15,000 photographers, 22,000 vendors and 500 publications spanning 100 countries. Over 40,000 features have been published using the Two Bright Lights’ platform.
As we embark on this new phase of our company, it’s important to share what this will mean for our members. Two Bright Lights will continue to provide the same service it always has, but now we will have the resources to become even BETTER. Our list of product improvements is a mile long and we are determined to check every one off the list. We will have the world’s largest curated collection of real weddings for editors to browse and publish. Images published by The Knot will be linked to other editors’ features. Vendor profiles will be auto-updated with recent feature links, so prospective clients can see their latest work in the press. These are just a few of the highlights to come.
The same team will continue to run Two Bright Lights from our San Francisco HQ just like we did before. Reid will continue to be our technology tsar, Ragan will be there for every community member, Kasia will design her heart out, Geeta will mastermind the database, Praveen will lead our engineering team, Sara will spread the word and I’ll continue to focus on strategic direction. We’ve signed a long-term lease at our office in Union Square and plan to stay.
Simply put, we care deeply about our members, love what we do and plan to keep doing it! We are honored to help magnificent content find its way to elite publications that inspire brides, grooms, mothers, other professionals and more.
I’m grateful to all of our members who have made Two Bright Lights the vibrant community it is today. I’m confident that our relationship with our extended family will make Two Bright Lights shine even brighter. Every successful business needs advocates, supporters, cheerleaders or angels. How lucky I have been to have them all.
Our entire team raises a glass of bubbly, overflowing with gratitude to our members, our industry friends and our newly expanded family, XO Group.
