“Being genetically related doesn’t make you family,” an unknown author once wrote. “Love, support, trust, sacrifice, honesty, protection, acceptance, security, compromise, gratitude, respect and loyalty is what makes you family.” These words came to mind when Bokéh Studios introduced us to this precious family of four. The husband and wife photography team were put into contact with the Witczak family through Capturing Hope, a wonderful non-profit organization made up of photographers who provide complimentary photo session for families with children suffering from Leukodystrophies. At eight months old, the Witczak’s youngest child Kenan, now five, was diagnosed with Krabbe Leukodystrophy. This inherited illness destroys the protective coating of nerves throughout the brain and body, and affects roughly 1 in 100,000 people across the United States. As of today, no cure exists. Their photo session with Bokéh Studios took place just outside Chicago’s Adler Planetarium, a location that offers excellent view of the city’s skyline! Although the city’s typical high winds posed some problems, the Witczak’s images turned out beautifully. “We wanted to capture the love the family had for each other and for Kenan during the photoshoot,” shared the photography duo, “and despite some troubles with the weather; we managed to get some photos that highlighted their personalities.” The images certainly communicate just that — the strong and loving bond shared between Kenan, his mom and dad, and his sweet big sister, Tamsen. As Bokéh Studios said, “They were gentle, welcoming, respectful and most importantly — full of love.” In good times and in bad, the Witczaks embody the meaning of family through and through.
Thank you Bokéh Studios for sharing this beautiful family’s story and shoot!
