Real Wedding: Rustic “I Do” Celebration at Lake Leelanau

Amber and Aaron wanted to start their married lives together in a place where they could often return as the years rolled by. After some thought, they decided on the Whaleback Inn overlooking Michigan’s beautiful Lake Leelanau. This lake and the surrounding villages have special significance to Aaron’s family — his grandfather built the area’s darling Bottenhorn Cottage (“Bott Cott” to the locals), and his family owns many of the scenic town’s cottages. Choosing a rustic theme that complemented the space and the outdoor scenery, the couple’s wedding day at this sentimental backdrop couldn’t have been more lovely. Overlooking the lake, Amber and Aaron exchanged vows under a wooden arbor accented with greenery and bright yellow sunflowers. Amber looked absolutely radiant in a vintage-inspired lace dress from Gown Boutique of Charleston and cowgirl boots. Aaron was a country prince charming in jeans, cowboy boots, and a simple white shirt, brown vest combo. The happiness of these two sweethearts emanates from every image that Dan and Melissa Photography captured of their day. Even the misty rain that plagued their festivities couldn’t damper the fun; the little guests especially enjoyed playing in the falling drizzle! For their reception, the bride and groom rented a sophisticated white tent from GJ’s Rentals so their guests could stay dry while enjoying a night of dinner and dancing. Inside the tent, Amber and Aaron included more rustic decor that showed off their fun-loving personalities, including a vintage typewriter at their guestbook table and sunflower centerpieces styled by Field of Flowers Farm on their reception tables. Chef’s Pride Catering whipped up a fabulous meal for the evening, and Sherricake created a mouth-watering cake and cupcake display. To top it all off, Mr. Music DJ & Event Services LLC had the dance floor packed from corner to corner all evening long at the “I Do” celebration. As Dan and Melissa Photography told us, “There were bright and brilliant sunflowers everywhere, cowboy boots galore, smiling faces, tears of joy and an all-consuming love surrounding them.” We couldn’t have captured the essence of this wedding day better ourselves.

  1. I’m looking for vests like the one the groom is wearing for use in my wedding. Can you tell me wear to find them? All I’m able to find are shiny silk like ones and I love the cotton/wool look as my wedding is rustic-country and all the guys are wearing jeans, boots, vests (if I can find them), and plaid shirts.

    1. Hi Stephanie! The detailed information the bride and/or photographer gives us is always posted at the bottom of each feature. If it isn’t listed there, we aren’t privy to that info. Maybe another wonderful reader will be able to help you out! Good luck, and congratulations on your upcoming wedding day!
