We’ve seen lots of rustic weddings. We’ve seen countless modern weddings. And we’ve definitely seen our fair share of vintage weddings, but never before have we seen a wedding like this one documented by Ben Elsass Photography that so effortlessly brings together all three of those themes. Set in the heart of Chicago — first opening with a ceremony at the beautiful Assumption Catholic Church in the downtown area and later transitioning into a reception at Bridgeport Arts Center — Chris and Katie’s backdrop naturally set the scene for urban and modern details. However, instead of letting their environment determine the overall style of their day, the bride and groom worked with Revel Decor to combine elements from different motifs throughout the whole celebration. Speaking to their love of vintage, the couple brought in a retro suitcase that served as a card collection box and an old window was upcycled into a display featuring love quotes and old family wedding photos. Katie’s lace, cap-sleeved wedding dress (which she snagged for a bargain at I Do Bridal Consignment) also stood out for its vintage-inspired design. Although often thought of as a direct contrast to modern aesthetics, Chris and Katie also did not shy away from incorporating as many rustic details as they possibly could at their loft venue reception…and it worked out splendidly. For starters, burlap table runners ran down the middle of each table, but, most uniquely, driftwood pieces and baby’s breath flowers were scattered about the room, too! But, before you start thinking that the city setting and the urban wedding portraits were the only modern things about this day, think again. In addition to the baby’s breath arrangements, most tablescape designs at their day included big vases filled with twisted branches; a look more common to the artistic character of today’s modern weddings. Then, on top of that, contemporary crystal chandeliers were hung above the wedding party table for a small touch of glamor. After viewing this fun wedding day creation and its conglomeration of styles, we’re definitely hoping more couples embrace this bold approach to mix-matched decor!
Isn’t this Chicago wedding just perfect?
