3 Ways to Benefit from Conferences After Attending

September 29, 2017

You know how it goes… You attend the MOST AMAZING conference and learn SO MUCH and benefit SO MUCH. But, you come back from that conference to the busy-ness of your life, and it all evaporates in a few days. All of those great ideas end up getting mushed into all of the other needs of your business.

How do you ensure that you’re getting more out of your wedding industry conferences after you attend?

Here are a few ways that you can make the most of your conference investment:

1. Schedule 1-2 days off AFTER the conference to make a plan.

When you decide to go to a conference, mark off 1-2 days after the conference on your calendar. Consider them part of the conference time. This is an important time to reflect on what you want to implement in your business going forward and use as a strategy. If you use these first days to catch up on email or work (as opposed to building a strategy) you will miss out on a key opportunity to activate your learnings. These are your strategy days.

2. Make an accountability buddy at the conference.

The face time is the best thing you can get from a conference. If the conference is a great fit for you, then there will be a tribe of people who are facing similar challenges as you. Find an accountability buddy (or team) and make a plan to check in with each other once a month. This helps you stay on top of the lessons and goals created at the conference. It’s also a great way to bounce ideas off someone who has a fresh perspective.

3. Read through your conference notes weekly (or daily).

We take so many notes during conferences. And – so often we get back home – get back into our work – and that notebook goes away. WHAT a WASTE!

Make a habit of reading through your notes periodically after the conference. This has been especially helpful for me to stay energized after a conference. (Otherwise, I fall into the post-good-time-blues.) This keeps the lessons fresh in my mind. And, I’m able to find ways to incorporate those tools on a daily or weekly basis.

How will you make the most of your conference investment after you attend? Giving yourself a GOOD PLAN for the days and weeks post-conference makes it easier to focus on seeing this investment pay off.
