You’re a hustling photographer, a forever-busy event professional, or a super booked publisher. Ever wonder why there aren’t enough hours in the day to check everything off your to-do list? Believe us, we’re right there with you. While we can’t add more hours to the day, we are here to help you to figure out how to make the most of each workday.
1. Make lists
Write it all down (or type it out, we do both here at TBL). Having a list of tasks in front of you may seem daunting, but you’re less likely to forget to do something if it’s on paper. Once the list is made, take a breather; that’s all you have to do! There's nothing more satisfying than crossing an item off your list.
2. Do the easy tasks first
By completing the simple tasks first, you leave time later in the day/week to focus on the bigger projects that need more attention to detail. Even if the simple task is, “Pick up apples and trash bags,” you can feel empowered crossing something off your list. One less thing you have to do!
3. Be realistic when prioritizing
So you’ve completed all of the easy tasks only to realize it’s now dark out. You didn’t even have time to start your big project. Understand that while we think of you as a superhuman, it’s impossible to get everything done. Don’t set impossible expectations for yourself to get everything done ASAP if you only need some of the work by tomorrow. Prioritize the timely tasks ahead and know that there are lots of days in the week to complete all of your work.
4. Put social media on pause
We look to social media and our electronic devices for an escape when we’re stressed. All those little moments here and there add up! Hide your phone and promise yourself you won’t scroll through Instagram until your lunch break. When you do sign on at the end of the day, you’ve earned that moment of social media freedom.
5. Set aside time for yourself
If you haven’t treated yourself to some time to relax, your stress levels are likely to be higher. Remember that you should work to live your life, not the other way around. You’ll get more work done if you have a clear and rested mind from much-needed time off.
We hope this list has helped you realize that you are incredible and very capable of getting everything you need to get done, but with some time to relax as well. It's all about your mindset, so this year get a head start on being productive!
